The Facilities Planning, Design, Construction & Scheduling unit of the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for an Electrical Trades Specialist Lead II position. Under the direction/guidance of the construction manager, the Lead will provide job assignments, training, and technical support to a construction crew while completing assigned construction/renovation/alteration projects. This position will also inspect completed work of assigned crew members to ensure ongoing construction conforms to trade-related means and methods, and will fill in for the construction manager as required.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Function as a team leader and, as required, provide guidance to trades specialist, maintenance workers, and other support personnel for the purpose of completing complex construction/renovations projects (large scale demolition projects, classroom renovations, build-outs of unfinished space, conversion of existing facilities to research laboratories, office complexes, computer labs, storage areas, etc.).
Serve as the on-site electrician for construction/renovation/alteration projects.
Assign job tasks to crew members to ensure work is completed according to schedule and budget.
Complete material take-offs, tool requirements, and job sequencing activities to effectively manage the available resources.
Provide construction manager with progress reports on assigned construction
Perform electrical duties for the purpose of completing complex constructions/renovation/alteration projects (large scaled demolition, classroom renovations, build-outs of unfinished space, conversion of existing facilities to research laboratories, office complexes, computer labs, storage areas, etc.).
Work Hours: Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Pay Grade: 15
High school diploma plus up to 18 months of technical or vocational training in a related field
An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
At least two (2) years of experience in Commercial or Academic construction and alteration work
Valid driver's license is needed to travel to different campus buildings
Master Electrician License issued by the State of West Virginia
The following are strongly preferred and must be completed within 6 months of employment
Scaffold, fall protection, ladder or rigging certification
Physical demands include:
Constantly working in difficult job sites ranging from: dirty, severe heat and cold, confined spaces, heights over 10 feet, standing for long periods of time, stooping, climbing, etc.
Constantly lifting and carrying construction debris/material weighing up to 70 pounds.
