Job Description: Colgate University, an NCAA Division I member of ECAC Hockey and the Patriot League Conference, invites applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer Position. This is a ten-month, full-time position with full health and retirement benefits over 12-months.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Athletic Training coverage of the assigned sports of Women's Ice Hockey and Men's and Women's Tennis. This position will also assist with the general operation of the athletic training room, and in the supervision and education of student assistants.Accountabilities will include:- Coordinates medical care operations of several designated varsity sports.- Responsible for the overall operational functions and strategies of assigned varsity sports, including:-- prevention, care, rehabilitation, appropriate specialist referral [A1] and emergency management (including spine boarding, oxygen use, CPR/AED) of team injuries. -- daily recording and evaluation of practice, treatment and injury logs to be completed and communicated to appropriate personnel after each practice/training session -- daily recording of all physician notes-- daily recording and review of all student-athlete files regarding recovery progression and symptoms-- daily communication between physicians, strength & conditioning personnel, coaching staff, academic adviser, and athletic administrators regarding student-athlete status.- Responsible for completion and submission of all insurance claims - Responsible for communicating effectively with insurance companies - Responsible for inventory and facility management- Responsible for supervision of all operational functions regarding practice and home game medical coverage of all intercollegiate athletic events per department sport coverage strategy, as assigned- Responsible for coordination and direct communication with university physician for assigned sports- Complete, independent and unchallenged decision-making authority regarding all student-athlete participation in any and all sport activities- Complete, independent, and unchallenged decision-making authority regarding all rehabilitation plans and return-to-play programs regarding all student-athlete participation in any and all sport activities- Complete, independent and unchallenged decision-making authority regarding all weather related activities Essential Functions: - Responsible for preparing and executing pre-participation screenings as assigned, including:-- medical history information acquisition (obtaining information from home, involved physicians, and other specialists) ; anthropometric measurement; musculoskeletal screening; Baseline ImPACT testing; Baseline C3 testing (contact sports); physician exam; final clearance documentation-- ensures personal compliance standards of clinical care operating under University Physician's professional license-- Responsible for collection of all appropriate NCAA, and University medical forms per University policies-- Responsible for the effective supervision of student assistants within the Colgate Student Assistant program, including hiring, scheduling, evaluation, daily operations, training and employment status of student assistants ---- Use independent discretion to terminate student employees.-- ensure all pertinent and reported student-athlete injuries are properly communicated to University medical staff and NCAA- Responsible for maintaining an effective relationship with Strength and Conditioning staff to ensure student-athlete safety by fostering good communication and maintaining basic knowledge of the strength and conditioning field. - Responsible for maintaining a budget. Exercises independent discretion on all purchases and budgetary decisions for assigned sport programs.- Accountable for maintaining personal compliance with all relevant governing bodies including:-- NCAA-- specific conference-- athletic department-- university policies-- NATA- Responsible for role modeling behaviors and leadership for student-athletes. - Adhering to the PERA Core Values-- Lead with integrity-- We are educators-- Strive for excellence-- One teamIndividuals will be expected to master the following technical competencies:Student-Athlete Care:Demonstrate experience and ability to provide medical care in an athletics setting, including prevention, care, treatment, safety, rehabilitation, and emergency management of injuries. General knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation; full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage and manual therapy; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment;Communication:Proven ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population of people and develop effective working relationships with student-athletes, physicians and coachesSport-specific Athletic Training Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to understand sport-specific injury patterns and apply appropriate prevention and rehabilitation. Compliance Regulations: Demonstrated knowledge and ability to comply with NCAA, conference and institutional regulations.Medical Knowledge and AdministrationDemonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards for handling blood borne pathogens; maintaining medical records, including HIPPAA standards; and following insurance procedures. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to follow University policies regarding specific injury types such as concussions. Certifications: Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of athletic training through current certification (including ongoing continuing education for most up-to-date science in field) by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification Board of Certification (NATABOC). Certification in New York State (or eligible) is required. A valid driver's license is required. Qualifications: - A minimum of a Bachelors's degree is required. - A minimum of one year experience as a professional, graduate assistant or intern is required. - Candidates must possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal), computer skills and a knowledge and commitment to all University, League, and NCAA regulations. - Must be NATABOC and NYS (eligible) certified. - A current valid driver's license, in accordance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required. Additional Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree preferred.- Experience in a college athletics setting is preferred.- Certification through National Strength and Conditioning Association and Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association is preferred.
