Job Description: Colgate University, a Division I member of the Patriot League Conference and ECAC, seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Assistant Director of Sports Performance. This position is a 10-month appointment with full health and retirement benefits over 12-months.Reporting directly to the Director of Strength and Conditioning, the individual hired will be responsible for all facets of the strength & conditioning program for specified men's and women's varsity sports. This includes ensuring a safe and effective working environment in the varsity weight room, strength and conditioning program development and implementation for assigned sports and working closely with the sports medicine program within university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. This position will represent Sports Performance as a liaison with the Campus Dietitian as well as other student-athlete wellness constituents on and off campus. This position will also be responsible for coordinating sport nutrition and wellness programming and services for student-athletes across all sport programs.Accountability for execution of specific strategic activities and outcomes within the assigned sport or area. These will include sustained performance and execution in the following areas:- Adhering to Director of Strength and Conditioning's philosophy- The use of independent discretion and judgment in creating strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports programs- Instructing student-athletes in proper and safe weight training techniques, plyometrics, speed development drills, conditioning exercises and agility movements that are current and scientifically valid- Effectively communicating with a diverse population of student-athletes- Student-athlete welfare- Counseling and educating student-athletes in the area of performance enhancement and personal well-being- Responsible for coordinating sport nutrition and wellness programming and services for student-athletes across all sport programs- Represent Sports Performance as a liaison with the Campus Dietitian as well as other student-athlete wellness constituents on and off campus- Responsible for personal growth and educational development to maintain advanced knowledge and expertise in sport performance instruction and coaching- Responsible for personal growth and educational development in nutrition and wellness programming Essential Functions: - Responsible for overall strength and conditioning program development, execution and instruction as it pertains to student-athlete sport performance and physical well-being including:-- Program development based on sport specificity, seasonality and competitive strategy, progressive instruction and acclimation, sports nutrition education and counseling, and injury rehabilitation programming and instruction- Independent and unchallenged decision-making regarding all student-athlete participation in strength and conditioning activities. Accountable for student-athlete welfare while coaching- Ensures all student-athlete injuries are properly reported to appropriate medical staff and that student-athlete injures are addressed appropriately in student strength and conditioning program- Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and protocols ensuring a safe and effective environment in the varsity weight room by inspecting all equipment, appropriately setting up the facility and monitoring each team's training sessions, when staffing permits- Accountable for maintaining personal compliance with all relevant governing bodies including:-- NCAA-- specific conference-- athletic department-- university policies- Responsible for effectively managing, training and evaluating all student staff and interns- Responsible for role modeling behaviors and leadership for student-athletes- Adhering PERA Core Values:-- Lead with Integrity- We are educators- Strive for excellence- One teamIndividuals will be expected to master the following technical competencies:Certifications: Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of strength and conditioning through certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and/or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association. Certification is maintained through continuing education and continued emergency cardiac care certification (CPR/AED)Strength and Conditioning Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise of sport specific strength and conditioning methodologies sufficient to properly prepare and execute a team training program, to include effective programplanning, periodization, competitive strategy and student-athlete management. Advance knowledge in sports nutrition as it relates to sport specific performance. Demonstrated ability to educate and monitor student-athlete nutrition.Compliance: Proven track record of an ability to comply with NCAA, conference and institutional regulations, Student-Athlete Development and Management. Demonstrated ability of consistently improving individual student-athlete performance. A demonstrated ability of developing student-athletes within the team/program.Student-Athlete Welfare: Demonstrated ability of knowledge of student-athlete welfare and well-being programming including sports nutrition, physical well-being and emotional well-being. Experience working with professional experts to develop and implement sport specific wellness programming for student-athletes.
