The Senior Director of Communications oversees and implements Steinhardt’s external and internal communications. Develops the School’s core messages, devises short and long term strategies for communicating its messages through multiple channels, and assists the Dean and the School’s senior leadership to effectively communicate this message to Steinhardt’s multiple constituencies, including, but not limited to faculty, administrators/staff, and enrolled students within Steinhardt and elsewhere throughout NYU; alumni, donors, strategic partners, funding agencies, state and federal regulatory bodies, and media entities. Manages the Steinhardt communications team which is responsible for carrying out the School’s strategic communication efforts in the areas of public relations, media relations, research, and social media (in collaboration with the marketing team). Works in collaboration with the school’s marketing and web team, as well as supports and advises department- and center-based communications staff.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or equivalent
Preferred Education: Master’s degree
Required Experience: Minimum of 7 years of related experience in public relations and/or communications including the development and implementation of strategic communication plans as well as communication with media and the public.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent writing, editing, communication, management, and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds across the school. Ability to communicate with School and University leadership on all aspects of communications. Expertise in development of long-term plans for public relations and communications and publications.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Familiarity with digital communication; interest and technical acuity to seek out, evaluate, and apply appropriate new tools and approaches. Experience with planning, writing, editing, and production of press releases, newsletters, social media posts, annual reports, and other print publications.
