Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) offers one of the most forward-looking educational environments in dental medicine in the country. The Billing Team, along with other members of the Finance and Administration team, supports the financial management and administration of the dental school. This position reports directly to the Billing Administrator, and works closely with the clinics it supports: Tufts Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is a dentistry specialty within the Diagnostic Sciences division that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates that causes, processes, and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical or other examinations and management of patients.
Under general supervision, the Billing Coordinator is responsible for providing billing metrics to support daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue and collections goals; timely creation and submission of patient treatment charges and claims to 3rd party dental and medical insurance companies; timely reviewing of claims and charges for accuracy; timely resubmission and/or appealing denied claims; posting payments and adjustments to patients' accounts; answering complex patient billing inquiries and timely review and collections on aged patient accounts. This position performs other related duties to assist in the management of claims submission and any/all billing aspects.
High School degree/GED and 3-5 years of experience in the finance field or in a related area and knowledge. Bachelor's Degree/Associates Degree preferred.
Needs to be driven, Excel expert level, innovative, independent, self-starter, a leader, team player, analytical intelligence, exceptional attention to detail.
Healthcare business or insurance knowledge, ability to effectively communicate technical information, aptitude and willingness to learn and drive change.
Dental Coder Certification required, or within 6-months of hire.
Bachelor's Degree and Certified Dental Coder (CDC) applicant with 4 - 6 years of finance experience.
Knowledge of third party billing: Medicare (CMS) regulations and guidelines, as well as commercial dental insurance coding/billing practices and compliance.
Familiarity with ADA, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
Experience in a fast paced dental/medical setting.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Dental Clinics, 40 hour work week, hours are Monday - Friday 8am-5pm (varies).
