Essential Functions: The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking an accomplished professional at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to partner with the department chair in developing and enhancing departmental clinical, educational and research activities in accordance with the vision and mission of Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU SOM), (including a continued strong emphasis on Diversity and Inclusion) and its teaching hospital partners. Primary responsibilities will include:Work closely with the Chairman to set the department academic short and long term goals and expand the department's core mission of education, research, and clinical care. The successful faculty candidate will be a productive scholar, optimally also in medical education, with the ability to mentor and serve as a role model to racial/ethnic minorities and female studentsDevelop, implement and promote departmental programs designed to deliver patient care that is safe, personal, coordinated, and of the highest quality and value.In cooperation with the Division Chiefs, Medical Directors and/or leaders of specialty programs within each discipline, maintain responsibility for the overall planning and assessment of the quality of clinical programs within the Department, and for attending to the Department's service delivery capability insofar as it affects the academic program of the Department. Develop and implement faculty practice plans.Facilitate the recruitment of new faculty and promote the professional development of all faculty and staff. Develop a working familiarity with the Hiring Plan (cf. http://www.oeo.wayne.edu/forms.php) at WSUSOM. Review (regularly) minority and female representation to determine what needs should be addressed.Work with Chairman and Division Chiefs to foster retention of senior faculty, as well as motivate/encourage faculty to work with residents and students. Stimulate and provide support to increase faculty involvement with undergraduates. Facilitate the use of faculty retention data for self-assessment by departments. The Associate Chair will assist with medical student/resident mentorship activities integrating pipelines for targeted students and residents interested in careers in particular medical disciplines.Work with the Division Chiefs to ensure that each faculty member is involved in at least one aspect of scholarship.Oversee educational activities provided by all divisions with emphasis on novel educational programs and tools.Represent the Department and Chair in all academic administrative matters when the chair is not available, andOther administrative duties, as assigned.
Qualifications: MD or DO licensure in the State of MichiganBoard Certification in Internal Medicine or its specialtiesA minimum of five years of professionally related experienceA strong working knowledge of ACGME guidelines and research finances, regulations and processesDemonstrated communication and leadership skills necessary to cultivate an environment of excellence and collaboration to augment the department's academic, research, clinical and service endeavors,Demonstrated understanding of the management issues in a highly complex clinical service and research environment,Demonstrated senior-level leadership, strategic partnership, negotiation and change management skills,Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy and establish a culture of integrity
