The Assistant Director will play a key role in advancing the awareness and reputation of NYU Steinhardt and the strategic engagement of: current and future faculty and students; schools across NYU and peer institutions; alumni, donors and funders. The selected candidate will report to the Senior Director of Communications. The individual will implement the strategic communications plan, including: helping to design and execute an integrated communications strategy to promote NYU Steinhardt to its key audiences and across a multitude of communications channels; designing and producing campaigns and collateral; tracking, understanding, and reporting metrics and data to measure outcomes; managing the school-wide communications cohort and selected vendors.
Required Education: BA in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or a related field
Preferred Education: Advanced degree in marketing, communications or a related field.
Required Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing and/or agency work. Demonstrated experience in developing communications for a range of audiences and working with creative professionals in design, photography and video. Experience supervising staff performing communications functions through multiple media platforms and technical graphic design work.
Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education, non-profits, public relations and/or technology. Experience developing and leading communications/marketing plans, organizational positioning, and strategic planning. Proficient with Adobe Creative suite, Drupal or other web CMS, email messaging and CRM platforms. Experience using social media for business applications.

Ability to work successfully and creatively in a fast-paced and changing environment while maintaining composure and a sense of humor. Willingness to learn new tools and stay abreast of communications and marketing trends. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Mailchimp or other online newsletter platform, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google apps and analytics, Twitter analytics, Hootsuite. Working knowledge of Drupal or other CMS, Flash, Illustrator and other multi-media technologies.
