The College of Media at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Marketing and Communications Director. This position is responsible for developing, determining and overseeing the implementation of the overall strategic marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives for the College. Such initiatives support the College's brand identity and awareness; alumni and donor engagement; student recruitment and retention; and industry, business and cross-campus collaborations. The Director of Marketing and Communications works directly with the College's dean to enhance the College's reputation on a regional and national level, directly impacting student recruitment/retention, industry recognition and partnerships, and, consequently, significant revenue to the College and the University.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Direct the implementation of communication and outreach efforts that highlight and support both the College's and WVU's strategic brand, vision and goals.
Utilize market research to strategize messages that coordinate with the goals and brand of the College and University, and conceptualize effective advertising strategies.
Execute all aspects of the College's comprehensive integrated marketing communications plan, including web, social media, print, events, and media relations.
Serve as lead storyteller for the College, providing a high level of writing, research and editing talent, and producing high-quality writing for a variety of projects.
Serve as Executive Editor of the College's annual alumni magazine.
Execute a sustained, targeted media/public relations campaign for the College, interacting with local, regional, and national media as necessary.
Direct the execution of strategic communications plan on all social media platforms, ensuring regular activity on all platforms.
Re-envision the College's website and other web-based resources to align with the University re-branding and to reflect appropriate messaging and content.
Plan and execute all aspects of high-profile and public events for the College.
Coordinate with the Director of Development to execute development communication strategy and interface with key alumni and donors to represent the College and its interests.
Coordinate with the College's Assistant Dean of Online Programs to determine strategic communications needs of the College's entrepreneurial programs, providing strategic oversight and input.
Collaborate on and develop overall communication and outreach strategy for the College's Media Innovation Center, with a focus on the value of the Center's initiatives and programs to potential industry and business partners, funders, and innovation collaborators.
Collaborate with and serve as the College's strategic liaison to University Relations, WVU's marketing department.
Supervise full-time Web Developer, Communications Manager, Graduate Assistant, Creative Specialists, student workers and freelance writers.
Bachelor's degree in public relations, advertising, integrated marketing communications, marketing, journalism, communications or a related field
Five (5) years of relevant professional experience; or a master's degree in any of the above fields plus a minimum of three years of relevant experience
