The Department of Graduate Studies in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Director of Graduate Studies. This position will be responsible for the management and administration of 35 graduate programs and approximately 1,000 graduate students. The Director is the point of contact for all Graduate Programs and is accountable for compliance issues, student conflict resolution, implementation of tuition/merit waiver guidelines, graduation certification, and admissions.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Provide guidance in identifying and implementing policies and processes that support the graduate programs and enhance the academic experience of the student body; focus will be specifically in graduate waivers, graduation certification, compliance and admissions.
Work in consultation with Office of Graduate Education and Life, as well as faculty and staff, to provide guidance related to policy interpretation, recruitment, and communication.
Assist both the Dean and Associate Dean in gathering information and documents related to conflict resolution and disciplinary action, and reporting findings, producing letters of warning, and overseeing probation and suspension as necessary.
Maintain compliance with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Student Academic Records Management Consultation Report for WVU.
Develop and present annual and ad hoc training sessions to departmental faculty and staff regarding graduate policy guidelines, admission, graduation certification, assistantship and meritorious tuition waver policies and procedures.
Coordinate and implement policy between the Office of the Dean, each graduate program in the College, and the Office of the Registrar to ensure that all graduation procedures have been followed and requirements for completion of degree program have been met.
Four (4) years experience in academic affairs and administration at a four year institution of higher education
Experience managing graduate programs preferred
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in controversial or adversarial situations
Demonstrated high level of ethics and integrity
Demonstrated ability to generate productive relationships with internal and external partners
Demonstrated knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques and processes
