The Office of Budget and Financial Planning (aka “the Budget Office”) is an exciting, dynamic and high-performing central department at New York University. The Budget Office plays a vital and very visible role in supporting decision-making at all levels of the institution. Summary: The Director is a leadership position within the Budget Office, with management and oversight responsibilities for the Budget Office’s program area: Unit Budgeting, Planning and Reporting. The Director is a strategic-thinker who regularly identifies issues related to budgeting and financial planning across the University and then guides and oversees the implementation of business process improvements. The Director is responsible for ensuring that all Budget Office work products within his/her area of responsibility are of high quality and delivered on time. The Director coordinates and collaborates on all work efforts with his/her counterpart Director in the Budget Office, as well as works closely with both the Senior Director and Vice President, Budget and Planning to ensure smooth operations of the department overall. The Director regularly works with counterparts in other University offices and the schools to coordinate work and identify and resolve issues; prepares and makes presentations to the Vice President, the CFO, and the Executive Vice President.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ work experience in related field with responsibility for a large program/functional area; managerial/coaching and team leadership experience; proven track record of being a positive change agent. Strong analytical skills, logical approaches to problem-solving, the ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently and effectively, professional communication skills and good judgement, and a desire and ability to take initiative, while successfully contributing to a collegial group environment. Mastery of key business and financial concepts and tools (e.g. budgets, operating expenses, capital expenses, financial statements, Microsoft Excel and other Office products, Oracle and Hyperion financial software).
Preferred: Master’s degree in business, public administration, or related field. 6+ years’ work experience in related field. Project/program management certification (e.g. Six Sigma). Experience in a complex, global organization.
