Reporting to the Director for Research Technology Services in NYU IT, the High-Performance Computing (HPC) specialist will interface with researchers to provide technical support, training and programming expertise for the development of HPC and data intensive applications to users of research clusters and centrally provided research data storage systems. This individual will be part of the NYU Research Technology team and will work closely with systems, storage, and network engineers to support HPC, OpenStack and Big Data clusters.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree +3 years’ experience (or educational equivalent) in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Education: M.S. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Required Experience: Experience in running scientific applications on large scale computers. Experience with optimizing and/or developing applications on UNIX-based systems.
Preferred Experience: Experience in programming with Fortran, C/C++, MPI and OpenMP parallel methods, and GPU computing Experience in Matlab, R, shell scripts, Perl, and/or Python Experience with cluster provisioning tools, ex. Warewulf, and configuration management tools, ex Ansible, puppet, etc. Experience with OpenStack and Ceph Experience with batch systems, especially SLURM Knowledge of high speed interconnects, especially InfiniBand Experience in Hadoop Experience in providing support for scientific application development and optimization
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Very good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Good understanding of high performance computing architectures, GPUs and OpenStack components. The ability to pick up and learn general concepts and technologies quickly and independently.
