The Medical School Dean's Office is responsible for the overall academic and administrative functions of the School. The Dean's Office oversees the School's academic departments, the teaching and research enterprises, student services, and physical plant. Functions include financial and strategic planning, resource allocation, faculty recruitment, interface with clinical affiliates, and other management responsibilities related to the function of a large and diverse medical school. The Office of Public Health and Professional Degree Programs (PHPD) oversees the administrative operations of the Medical School's graduate programs inclusive of admissions, registration, career services and student services functions for about 600 plus students.
The Communications Specialist executes communications strategies that promote the goals and mission of the Medical School and Public Health and Professional Degree Programs. Develops and oversee high-quality, effective materials and messaging including research and writing effective communication pieces. Identifies and evaluates marketing strategies based on knowledge of the programs, market characteristics in higher education, and cost. Develops and implements communications and marketing plans and projects; develops and oversees content for the website and social media communications. Develops communication plans that will heighten connections to prospective and current students and enhance the visibility of the programs, faculty and the schools. Evaluates and reports on effectiveness of communication and marketing strategies and recommends changes or improvements. Monitors budgets, provides guidance to support staff, students and temporary workers and coordinates with outside vendors and consultants on projects.
A bachelor's degree with 5 plus years of related experience.
Should possess strong writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Excellent judgment, ability to work under pressure, and handle sensitive issues required.
Ability to be creative in a resource-challenged environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and expertise in social media.
Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in marketing, communication, or public relations and 3 – 5 years of related experience.
Experience in higher education, digital communications, and/or web content management system a plus.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: May be required to work some evening hours for special events.
