OUR IMPACT Equity Capital Markets (ECM) is a fast-paced, markets-focused, deal-driven environment where you will multi-task for multiple corporate clients and investors each day. Colleagues interface directly with the world's leading equity investors, gaining valuable insight into buy-side portfolio management trends which inform our key judgements. In ECM, you will learn to speak the language of CEOs and CFOs, explaining how and why strategic decisions create or destroy shareholder value through changes in stock price. You will develop valuation skills used to form judgements on company valuation, equity offering sizing and execution, market risk pricing and investor targeting. ECM teams are designed to be lean and you will may be the sole professional on most projects, leading to more responsibility and autonomy earlier in your career. Colleagues have regular dialogue with corporate clients and business leaders throughout the firm. They are the hub of the execution wheel, interacting with a wide variety of internal GS teams (IBD, Financial Sponsors, Sales & Trading, Research, Private Wealth, Legal) and external parties (corporate clients, equity investors, external counsels, regulators, market exchanges, client advisory firms). The ECM product suite includes initial public offerings, rights issues, ABOs/block trades and corporate broking (UK team only). In EMEA the group is organised by region, so individuals will cover a specific region across all industry groups. The team also works closely with the Structured Equity Group to market and execute convertibles and equity derivatives in their respective regions.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS HOW YOU WILL FULFIL YOUR POTENTIAL
Day-to-day tasks may include the following:
- Be a key team member in the content creation process, utilising product expertise and regional context to efficiently create bespoke marketing and execution materials. - During the pitch process, think critically to combine market data with corporate finance principles to form judgements on company valuation, balance sheet optimisation, growth strategy and competitive positioning. - During equity offering execution, coordinate internal divisions, lead investor education and marketing, and synthesise investor feedback to form views on pricing and allocations. - Correspond with our Sales and Trading division, research division and directly with investors to help pinpoint judgments and craft effective market messaging for corporate clients. - Provide regular feedback directly to corporate clients on stock-specific trading activity, market themes, key macro events and investor commentary.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Strong academic record with Bachelor's degree or above in Economics, Finance or a related discipline required - Prior investment banking industry experience essential - Knowledge of Capital Markets/Growth Markets required - Demonstrable stakeholder/client relationship management experience required - Must have experience of running group meetings; preparing presentations, Q&A talking points, briefings and reporting - Experience of analysing performance metrics; analysing competitors' and own company's investments - Proven research skills; providing market insights required - Strong IT skills with knowledge of Bloomberg required - Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required - Must be a team-player
