Required Qualifications: (As Evidenced by an Attached Resume) Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, biomedical or related fields [mathematics, biostatistics] and a one year work experience directly related to the assigned research area with experience in: Basic cellular and molecular biology techniques: tissue culture, RNA and protein isolation, RNA and protein analysis; Western blot analysis, RT-PCR analysis, experience in working with in vitro cultures of mammalian cell lines, Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent techniques using cells and animal tissues; Maintenance of mice colonies and genetics of animal models, handling and dissecting of animals (mice); Proficient with data analysis using Microsoft package software, Adobe Photoshop software, Preferred Qualifications: Flow cytometry, reporter and activity assays. Data analysis and manuscript preparation, including producing figures for manuscripts. Laboratory maintenance, including keeping a detailed laboratory notebook, and managing undergraduate students. Brief Description of Duties: The successful individual will be appointed as a Research Support Specialist in the Department of Medicine. The overall research goal of the project is to study the role of Krüppel-like Factor 5 (KLF5) in the intestinal epithelium under pathophysiological conditions (inflammation and inflammation-driven carcinogenesis). The Research Support Specialist will work independently and as a team member on animal and cell culture models towards understanding the role of KLF5 in the development and progression of processes of inflammation and carcinogenesis. Conduct experiments in animal models, including maintaining breeding stocks, genotyping and monitoring health on a regular basis. Cell culture and biochemical techniques such as RNA isolation, real-time RT-PCR, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent, flow cytometry and Western blotting will be used to complement the animal models. Literature searches; staying current in the field by reading and discussing the literature and experimental results with the supervisor and PI. Assist with writing and preparing manuscripts based on the experimental findings. Special Notes: FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
