The Woman's Center is seeking to add a motivated, energetic urogynecologist who has aspirations in teaching and academics but prefers the lifestyle associated with private practice.
The Woman's Center is made up of two synergistic departments: The Woman's Center for Advanced Pelvic Surgery and The Woman's Center for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. The center was designed to provide individualized care for women with pelvic floor disorders. The Phoenix area is an ideal place to practice urogynecology and The Woman's Center seeks to become the leader in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders in the area. The Woman's Center was founded by Dr. Ryan Stratford, an urogynecologist who completed his fellowship with Dr. Bob Shull. Dr. Stratford is board certified in FPMRS and served on the Board of Directors of AUGS. Since its inception 12 years ago, The Woman's Center has grown tremendously both in breadth of services and quality of care. Dr. Kelly Kantartzis, an urogynecologist, who completed fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh joined The Woman's Center in 2014. In addition to Dr. Kantartzis, The Woman's Center has two nurse practitioners and a pelvic floor physical therapist to complement the great services provided by the physicians. Because metropolitan Phoenix has many retirement communities, the demand for urogynecology services is very high, necessitating a third urogynecologist in the practice. We are seeking to hire the summer of 2018. The Woman's Center not only services the entire metropolitan Phoenix area but also surrounding communities within Arizona and surrounding states. The Woman's Center wants to expand it's services to include all areas within the sub-specialty of FPMRS. Recent growth in services provided by The Woman's Center for Pelvic Floor Dysfunction includes pelvic floor rehabilitation and post-partum management of 3rd and 4th degree lacerations.
Whereas hospital-based employment opportunities may provide some security, they do not provide the practitioner the opportunity to directly guide his/her practice while having control over office and staff efficiencies. In addition, private practice offers a lifestyle unmatched by any other practice setting. Collegial relationships with other members of the team as well as other physicians within the community provide a nurturing environment for someone seeking to develop skills and clinical experience in urogynecology. In addition, Dr. Stratford, who founded The Woman's Center has experience in business operations, having completed his undergraduate education in finance and an MBA from the University of Chicago. As such, Dr. Stratford is dedicated to not only providing top notch medical care but also making the patient experience commensurate to the high level of care provided. He understands that having a flexible, responsive environment is critical to obtaining that level of care.
The candidate should have aspirations in teaching and clinical research as well. At The Woman's Center there is a high level of commitment to clinical data collection and evaluation of performance in order to make continual improvement. Dr. Stratford and Dr. Kantartzis participate in AUGS' ACQUIRE quality registry. They also participate in other databases for collection of outcome data. As such, clinical research is considered a part of practice for continual improvement. Dr. Stratford received designation as a COEMIG (Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology) surgeon and remains dedicated to data collection. Candidates seeking to join The Woman's Center will also be encouraged to participate in registries.
In addition to research, the candidate must have an interest in training residents. Physicians at The Woman's Center teach and train residents in Ob/Gyn from the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix Residency Training Program. Each third-year resident in Ob/Gyn spends five to six consecutive weeks on rotation at The Woman's Center. Academic appointment at the University of Arizona is available and recommended as part of teaching both residents and students from the university.
Applicants must possess experience in a wide range of surgical approaches in the management of urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and fecal incontinence. A desirable candidate must be skilled in vaginal, laparoscopic and abdominal approaches. Additional experience in neuromodulation and robotic surgery is desired. All candidates must have completed a board certified fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and/or be board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. A list of recently performed procedures will be requested of the applicant.
Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the United States. Surprisingly, there are very few fellowship-trained urogynecologists board certified in FPMRS who practice in Phoenix. The University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix is expanding as it negotiates relationships with Banner and Maricopa County. The physicians at The Woman's Center are members of the faculty of the academic center but are not employed by the academic center. The Woman's Center was founded to be the premier center in Arizona for providing high quality care that is equivalent in academic approach to a university-based center but better in providing patient care and patient experience than can be achieved in a large hospital setting. Because academic appointment along with teaching of residents is part of the practice, the opportunity is unique among all others in the country.
The Phoenix area is a great place to live. The “Valley of the Sun” is well-known for athletic events including being the host to 3-4 major (including BCS) college football bowl games a year, home of the cactus league spring training for nearly half of the major league baseball teams, home of an NBA, NFL, and major league baseball teams, and home of year-round good weather for outdoor activities. Phoenix is located in a desert climate that enjoys wonderful winter weather and seasonal visitors that provide opportunities for urogynecologists to care for patients from all over the United States, particularly from the Midwest and West. If you have an interest in outdoor activities and national parks, you will be thrilled to live in Arizona where there is camping in the largest forest of pine trees in the country (Mogollon Rim), waterskiing in the most majestic lake in the world (Lake Powell), snow skiing at two family friendly resorts, and hiking/ river rafting in one of the most spectacular settings in the world (the Grand Canyon). Mesa is a large bedroom community of Phoenix that continues to grow rapidly. Mesa is a very family-friendly community that boasts quick, 15-minute access to the international airport and downtown events, yet separated from the traffic and complexities of large city life. The Woman's Center has a very good working relationship with Banner Desert Medical Center located on the crossroads of Tempe and Mesa as well as Scottsdale Osborne Medical Center located on the southern end of Scottsdale and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center and Chandler Regional Medical Center. Banner Desert Medical Center boasts one of the most active obstetric units in the country and the most active in the state of Arizona with over 6,000 deliveries a year. The Medical Center is a tertiary care center that attracts surgeons from all subspecialties. The Woman's Center has close working relationships with many other subspecialists including colorectal surgery, urology, general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology.
