Deliver immigration services for F-1 and J-1 international students and their dependents within the NYU system to permit lawful entry into the U.S. Advise on opportunities, rights and responsibilities under the law and refer to other University departments, attorneys, or governmental agencies as necessary. Counsel international students on all personal, health, social, cultural, financial, and immigration matters related to their stay in the U.S. Act as designated school official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in issuing required US government documents for international students to obtain student or exchange visitor status, extend stay, apply for employment authorization, travel abroad. Partner to maintain office database. Collaborate with staff, schools, departments and outside organizations (including vendors) to plan and coordinate events, identifying themes or topics, planning agendas, scheduling presenters.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Preferred Education: Master's in cross-cultural communication, counseling, area or cultural studies, foreign language, TESOL.
Required Experience: Minimum 2 years relevant immigration regulations advisement and compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience teaching/training/presenting. Experience with databases.
Preferred Experience: Experience with database management.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of immigration, SEVIS, and exchange visitor requirements. Ability to communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of databases. Must be able to communicate detailed instructions clearly. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of database management. Fluency in foreign language and/or experience living abroad.
