The Biology Department in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking an Academic Lab Manager I. This position is responsible for providing support to the majors biology (BIOL 219 and 320/321) laboratories, which includes approximately 600 students annually.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Prepare, maintain and clean up laboratory activities for the majors biology laboratory classes, including, but not limited to, preparing, restocking, and removing and/or cleaning supplies and equipment.
Maintain healthy stock of a wide range of organisms, such as bacteria and plants.
Maintain clean and safe work surfaces in all teaching labs and prep rooms, as well as first aid and safety equipment.
Inventory and maintain supplies in a manner that will facilitate lab operations in an orderly manner.
Provide support for approximately 10-12 teaching assistants per semester in lab procedures to teach biology laboratories, and monitor graduate teaching assistants grade records.
Perform all aspects of weekly laboratory preparation, and make recommendations regarding setups, equipment, curriculum, policies and procedures.
Maintain, upkeep and direct majors biology lab classes and computer facility as needed.
