Real Estate Appraiser:
Responsible for providing and managing all types of residential and commercial real estate appraisal services for Severn Bank’s lending groups. The appraiser reports to the Chief Credit Officer and ensures that Bank’s appraisal policies are in compliance with applicable regulations.
Provide oversight of the real estate valuation functions for various business units, including Underwriting, Secondary Lending, Portfolio Lending, Construction, Loss Mitigation, Servicing and Credit Administration.
Maintain a thorough and current awareness of USPAP and regulatory guidance pertaining to federally related real estate transactions.
Implement existing policy, and assist in the development of new policies to ensure best practices and the receipt of high quality, credible real estate valuations in a timely fashion.
Maintain a quality control system that evaluates and monitors the performance of third-party vendors including appraisers, appraisal management companies, inspectors and environmental analysts.
Evaluate individual appraisers for quality and service and make recommendations for panel status to the Board of Directors.
Maintain an accurate and up to date list of approved appraisers and their qualifications.
Direct the appropriate engagement of appraisers and environmental analysts.
Work with appraisers and appraisal management companies to perfect valuations as needed.
Conduct reviews of complex valuations and valuation products as necessary.
Provide guidance to other staff members regarding valuation processes and strategies.
Communicate any concerns about quality to Management

The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes:
Bachelor’s degree / or equivalent work experience.
3-5 yrs. experience in real-estate and commercial appraisals.
Prior experience working in the appraisal department of a federal bank is preferred.
Maintain a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser license with the State of Maryland.
Possess (or be willing to obtain) and maintain a Home Inspector license with the State of Maryland.
Effective communicator with all levels of staff within the organization to include auditors and regulators.
An understanding of federal bank operations and/or appraisal department policies and procedures is preferred.
