Job Summary & Responsibilities Goldman Sachs & Public Sector & Infrastructure Banking Overview: Goldman Sachs' Public Sector and Infrastructure Banking Group (?PSI?) is seeking talented professionals for a full-time Investment Banking Analyst or Associate position within the Sports, Transportation, and Project Finance (?Sports / Transpo?) sub-group. The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides a wide range of financial services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. Founded in 1869, the firm is headquartered in New York and maintains offices in London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Hong Kong and other major financial centers around the world. PSI sits within the Americas Financing Group in the Investment Banking Division. PSI cultivates underwriting and advisory relationships with state and local governmental entities, transportation and mass transit agencies, sports franchises, major infrastructure construction firms, not-for-profit hospital and healthcare organizations, higher education organizations, public power and utility systems, and other public projects by assisting them in meeting their short- and long-term financing needs. The group focuses on origination, structuring and execution of a variety of tax-exempt and taxable debt, bank loans, high-yield debt (both bonds and CLOs), derivatives and public-private partnership transactions (?P3?). The multi-functional group combines client coverage with product expertise, capital markets expertise and deal execution. Our offices are headquartered in New York City, with regional offices in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Atlanta, and Houston. The Sports/Transpo group works on a variety of high profile projects including the financing of many of the new stadiums and arenas that have been built in the US in recent years as well as is a leader in the execution of public-private partnerships in the US. Sports projects led by our team include: Yankee Stadium, MetLife Stadium, Barclays Center, Amway Arena (Orlando), Twins Ballpark, Levi?s Stadium, KFC Yum! Center, the new Vikings Stadium, Inter Milan Media Company, AS Roma Media Company, various NFL facilities, the creation of Legends Hospitality, and a host of other sports financings. Our P3 business in the US was established with the first P3 deal done in the US ? the sale of the Chicago Skyway ? and continues to be successful with recent P3 transactions, including: University System of Georgia Housing Privatization, Lehigh County Authority Water and Sewer Concession financing, and the I-77 Hot Lanes financing outside of Charlotte, NC.
Overview of the PSI Sports / Transpo Analyst/Associate Position: Analysts and Associates in PSI develop outstanding financial modeling, client relationship and new business generation skills. Analysts and Associates are integral members of dedicated teams, who serve the client groups described above and are responsible for the execution of debt and derivative transactions and P3 projects. Within the Sports / Transpo group, Analysts and Associates split their time between sports and transportation assignments.
While seemingly disparate, Sports and P3 financings are structured similarly as both utilize project finance analysis, and the credit review is more consistent with corporate work than municipal work. Crucial to success as a Sports / Transpo Analyst/Associate is an ability to examine, review and understand financial statements and strong Excel modeling skills. In the Sports space, Analysts and Associates work on financings for Stadiums and Arenas, Sports Teams, and Leagues in the United States and Europe. Knowledge of the business of sports is not required but is helpful (understanding and love for the games played is useful as well but again not required). In the Transportation space, our group focuses primarily on public-private-partnership transactions as well as traditional municipal financing for surface transportation agencies (toll roads, mass transit and departments of transportation), airports, and ports.
Our team is lean, so Analysts and Associates are given real responsibility right away and work closely with all levels, including Vice Presidents and Managing Directors, to prepare written and oral presentations and execute financings. Once mandated on a transaction, Analysts and Associates provide a full range of services including transaction structuring analysis, assisting in developing and preparing credit information for formal bond rating agency and investor presentations, working with the team to assess a variety of credit enhancement structures, reviewing legal and other offering documents and reviewing product alternatives as pricing approaches. Given the size of our team, the best Analysts and Associates are extremely motivated individuals who consistently are thinking two and three steps ahead. Self-starters and people with opinions and ideas are welcome.
