Supports Carilion's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Provides accurate language interpreting services for patients to ensure effectively communication with health care providers and promote a positive patient care experience.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Education:High school diploma required.
Experience: Must be proficient in both written and spoken English and must be proficient in sign language with 1 to 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with proficiency in medical terminology.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration:Successful completion/certification as Medical Interpreter (by an agency which is recognized by Carilion) is required or must be obtained prior to hire.
10 Hours of continuing educationrequired annually
National Certification preferred but not required
Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal skills: Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult people and crisis situations Interprets with highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes Flexible to meet scheduling needs and handle often unpredictable changes Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
