The Director, Cloud Services and Technologies, will provide leadership in the transformation of the underlying IT compute and storage infrastructure at the University. The incumbent will be the thought-leader for NYU IT and the NYU Global Community in this area and charged with creating strategies for new foundational technologies supporting University-wide applications, creating the business cases that justify movement to these new technologies and getting buy-in from all levels of key stakeholders – from engineers to executives. Specific responsibilities include the creation and evolution of a strategy and set of roadmaps for migrating workload currently on standard compute and storage platforms to Cloud technologies. The incumbent will provide leadership in creating the architecture and implementing both Enterprise and Campus Cloud (for departmental/research use, etc.) services, and will be an advocate and central organizer for the Cloud effort and activities at the University. Key collaborations will be both within NYU IT and across administrative, academic and research units of the University. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) activities will be areas of emphasis for this position.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related disciplines.
Required Experience: 10-15 years IT leadership experience with a minimum 3 years working in Cloud technologies. Progressively responsible professional experience in an information technology environment at the enterprise level, with a good overall understanding of how applications are supported on a variety of technical architectures and infrastructures. Recent, in-depth, leadership experience with developing and/or maintaining an active and successful enterprise-level Cloud program including strategy and financial analysis for private and public Clouds and migration of workloads to public clouds.
Preferred Experience: Experience in developing and/or supporting a successful Cloud program in a university environment. Recent experience in developing a Cloud strategy and migrating workload to private and public clouds. Recent experience in authoring a Cloud strategy in a university environment. Significant experience running enterprise-level traditional (non-Cloud) infrastructure and operations.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Expert knowledge of Cloud computing technologies and developing Cloud programs within a large organization. Expert knowledge of enterprise-level IT architectures and infrastructure, Cloud vendors, Cloud computing technologies, support methodologies and Cloud-related tools. Ability to provide technical advice to a non-technical audience. Excellent verbal, written and communications skills. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent negotiation skills. Ability to perform complex financial analyses related to infrastructure and Cloud deployment options. Ability to effectively collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders across the campus.
