The Roads and Grounds department in the Division of Facilities and Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Landscape Worker Lead position. Under the direction of the Supervisor, this position will lead a team to maintain and care for the exterior appearance of institutional buildings, lawns, plantings, and grounds surrounding the campus utilizing hand tools, walk-behind equipment, and small riding equipment.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Function as a team leader, providing guidance and managing Landscape Workers, Landscape Construction Workers, and Campus Service Workers, and any other personnel as required.
Inspect completed work assignments to ensure quality control.
Assist supervisor with multi-craft projects related to overall work assignments.
Communicate work schedules and goals to employees and customers.
Read and review prints on new and existing building projects for repair or construction associated with specific job duties and expertise.
Develop as-built sketches of completed projects, and complete detailed cost estimates and drawings.
Maintain knowledge of state, federal, and local codes and requirements pertaining to maintenance and construction.
Operate computers utilizing various software programs as needed.
Drive around the campus to complete work assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Pay Grade: 12
High school diploma, G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Two (2) years of experience in the following:
Directly related grounds maintenance experience within a commercial environment
Operation of all types of ground equipment, such as mowers, spreaders, loaders, etc.
Experience supervising and training employees preferred
Valid driver's license
